
Robbie Keane believes he and David Beckham essentially ‘helped change MLS’ throughout their time at LA Galaxy.
Keane spent six seasons with the Galaxy in the direction of the tip of his profession, briefly overlapping with Beckham – whose 2007 transfer massively raised the profile of MLS.
In an interview with FourFourTwo for the most recent subject that can be purchased (opens in new tab), the previous Tottenham (opens in new tab), Liverpool (opens in new tab) and Republic of Eire striker displays on his time within the USA with nice fondness.
“I look again on all of the objectives I scored in my profession with great recollections,” Keane tells FFT. “I used to be lucky sufficient to get many, together with for LA Galaxy after I moved there in 2011.
“It was an enormous time by way of the success we had: we gained three MLS Cups [league titles] over my five-and-a-half years on the membership. I really feel David Beckham and I helped to alter MLS – extra David first, when he joined LA Galaxy in 2007, then me following him.
“We performed collectively in two MLS Cup finals: we beat Houston Dynamo 1-0 in 2011, and I scored a penalty after we beat them once more in 2012. Two years later, I scored the extra-time winner after we defeated New England Revolution. After our spells in California, the calibre of footballers that performed within the league is one thing I’m extraordinarily pleased with.”
With 104 objectives, Keane stays LA Galaxy’s second-highest scorer of all time – behind USA legend Landon Donovan.
He left the Galaxy in 2016, ending his enjoying profession with a brief stint at now defunct Indian Tremendous League outfit ATK.
