The Reds are on the hunt for a successor to Julian Ward, who’s leaving the membership on the finish of the season – together with director of analysis Ian Graham.
Per GOAL (opens in new tab), talks with Schmadtke – who stepped down as Wolfsburg managing director in February – have reached a complicated stage, though no deal has been finalised.
Schmadtke, 59, is assumed to have already got a powerful relationship with compatriot Jurgen Klopp – who is ready to have a good time eight years in cost at Anfield this October.
A goalkeeper for Fortuna Dusseldorf and Freiburg within the 80s and 90s, Schmadtke has held government roles at numerous German golf equipment since hanging up his boots – starting at Aachen in 2001, earlier than transferring on to Hannover and Koln.
When The Telegraph (opens in new tab) broke information of Liverpool’s method for Schmadtke on Saturday, the report detailed his ‘outspoken type’ and ‘sturdy sense of humour’.
