Chelsea proprietor Todd Boehly addressed the squad within the aftermath of their defeat to Brighton on Saturday, in a bid to lift morale forward of the Champions League this week.

However in accordance with the Telegraph (opens in new tab), one insider described the pep speak from the US proprietor – by which he described the Blues season as “embarrassing” – as backfiring, declaring, “the entire thing was bizarre”. 

Issues went from dangerous to worse for the misfiring west Londoners on the weekend, as they let a 1-0 lead slip and Frank Lampard misplaced a 3rd match in a row. Boehly himself was blasted by Chelsea followers at Stamford Bridge – so took it upon himself to talk straight with the gamers after the defeat.

Boehly reportedly waited for Lampard to complete talking along with his squad – lots of whom have arrived in a near-£600 million splurge within the final 12 months – earlier than addressing the gamers alongside his fellow board members, Behdad Eghbali and Hansjorg Wyss.
